Marcos Marin, born in Sao Paulo Brazil September 12, 1967, is the son of a movie producer and an opera singer. From the age of five Marcos followed the classical piano lessons at the Music Conservatory of Sao Paulo. At a very young age, Marin began a career as a virtuoso pianist and has studied music in France. At the same time, Marin developed a passion for painting. At the Cite des Arts in Paris in 1990, Marin met Vasarely. Intrigued by the work of the master, Marin embarked on the adventure of opti-cal art. Subsequently, Marin won 2 awards for his artwork: The  Fiat contest with Christovan Columbus portrait celebrating the 5ooth anniversary of the discovery of America (now at Museum Fiat of Turin) and the Philips Collection in Sao Paulo Art Museum, MASP.

During this decade, Marin played an important role in cultural development between Brazil and France for the IAA UNESCO.

In 2000, Marin moved to the United States, Miami Beach, where he set up his studio. In 2003, Marin initiated his first monumental sculpture, which was exposed to the Coconut Grove Convention Center to mark the inauguration of the great art fair ‘Arteamericas. Marin also won the ‘Best of Florida’ contest.

At the Art Basel event in 2004, Marin was invited by Delphine Pastor, who was impressed by his talent, to exhibit in Monaco. Subsequently, Marin’s inauguration in Monaco featured a magnificent portrait of Princess Grace, which is now exhibited in the new museum of Monaco. A few days after the death of Prince Rainier III, Prince Albert II comissioned Marin to create the official public monument dedicated to his father. This monumental work was unveiled January 18, 2006 at the entrance to the Cirque de Fontvieille.

In 2006, Marin met the designer and patron, Pierre Cardin, who offered him the opportunity to make large format works in the studio of Lacoste castle in Provence. At the same time, Marin worked in Portugal with the patron from Macau,Stanley Ho, as part of the 50th anniversary of the Casino Estoril. Mr. Ho offered Marin two medals of honor: one thanking the artist for the exhibition at the gallery of the Casino and one for the portrait of Mr. Ho, which is now exhibited in Macau.

In 2009, Marin was invited to Japan as a part of the Brazil-Japan one century of friendship and he received recognition for ‘Life time Achievement.’

In September of 2011, the monument “Jean Cocteau” Optical sculpture was unveiled to the public and is now at the Citadel of Ville-franche-Sur-Mer. This was Marin’s first work as public historical monument displayed in French territory.

2012, a year filled with achievements, Marin participates in Art Monaco with a new monumental sculpture of the “Princess Grace”, the sculpture passes to integrate the Prince’s collection. The project “Paraphrase” is presented in Roquebrune-cap-martin, in the garden of olive trees with the large sculpture “David” paraphrase of Michelangelo.

Invited by the Russian government as part of the Monegasque delegation, Marin participates in the project “Images of Russia” and wins the first prize of the Academy of Fine Arts of Russia, as well as reveals the portrait of President Putin offered to him at the Academy.

In Singapore, during the Gala of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, a sculpture of Lee Kuen Yew, former president was the great object of the auction by Christies.

2013

The City of Roquebrune inaugurated the commissioned permanent public monument “Coco Chanel” on the “Hall of celebrities” of Cape Martin.

2014

A new monumental portrait of Princess Grace of Monaco was ineugured by HSH Prince Albert II for the occasion of L’art’Bre at the Cap Martin Public Garden

2016

The monumental portrait of the composer “Rossini” was inaugured at the entrance of the Opera House San Carlo Theater of Naples Italy, on the occasion of the opening of the wolrd opera season.

2017

The National Museum of Archeology of Naples Ilalia, MANN presented the Monument “Gianni Versace” of Marcos Marin during the exhibition “Magna Grecia Inspiration for the Mith” during 6 months of public show.

2018

Inauguration of the historic monument to Princess Grace of Monaco, a 4 meter polished bronze sculpture in Macau at the Galaxy Resort and the sculpture tribute to Marise Condé, Nobel Prize winner in Paris and Guadeloupe are the two monumental works in evidence for the year.

Invited by the Kraft Pavlova Foundation, Russian Ministry of Culture and City of Moscow, Marin participates in the official exhibition of the Footbal World Cup at Zaryadye Park Moscow.

2019

Marin inaugurates the portrait of the President of Algeria, Abdel Aziz Bouteflika in Algiers, also unveils the portrait of Mohamed VI king of Marroc during the Andaluz Music Festival in Tangier, Marroc.

At the Monaco TV Festival, Marin presents the portrait of the actor Michael Douglas, a sculpture co-segned by the actor and Marin in friendship and celebrating the 50 years of career of this star of the cinema and television.

“Grace Forever” is the new monumental sculpture unveilled by the HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco celebrating her 90 years old in memorian at Cap Martin France.

Marin is part of the “George V Monumental” public exhibition in Paris with 20 importants giants sculptures.

The artist lives and works in Monaco.

Les sérigraphies, peintures et sculptures tridimensionnelles combinent lumière et mouvement. Les portraits des célébrités contemporaines s’animent dès que l’on s’en approche, et les sculptures extérieures jouent avec le paysage environnant révélant des strates jusqu’alors inconnues. Le spectateur se trouve alors placé dans une situation qu’il déclenche et transforme, tant sa participation et son implication physique sont indispensables dans le dispositif de l’œuvre de Marcos Marin. L’artiste joue avec les lois de la perspective et compose une interaction des couleurs. En opposant une couleur chaude à une couleur froide, il crée ainsi un renforcement de l’une au détriment de l’autre, la première avance dans l’espace, inversement pour la seconde. La superposition des trames donne l’effet d’une œuvre changeante et mouvante. L’illusion optique produite par ces reliefs en perpétuelles vibrations nous fait croire à une mobilité des éléments du tableau ou de la sculpture. Il s’agit bien là d’une ouverture dans l’espace, celle que Vasarely nommait «la quatrième dimension. Cette relation des éléments les uns avec les autres produit des effets visuels quasi subliminaux, déjouant la perception. Et c’est cette perception avant tout qui est le mouvement. Dans la lignée des précurseurs de l’art optique, Marcos Marin, grâce à sa grande maîtrise technique, réussit à insuffler une âme tangible à ses images.

“Mes peintures ne définissent pas un temps, mais perpétuent un moment de gloire que ce miroir magique retiendra”.

Alors que l’œil de l’observateur transforme la chose observée, Marcos Marin trouble en avant notre regard en jetant son pinceau sur la figure humaine, provoquant l’onde d’un choc visuel qui nous rapproche des recherches intenses qu’ont menés les artistes cynétiques. D’un Vasarely il a intégré la dimension, d’un Yvaral il a puisé l’ombre et la ligne. Poursuivant sans cesse ses recherches il cadre la figure humaine comme une architecture de l’être. La ligne n’est jamais pure, tout autant qu’elle n’est jamais droite. Elle a toujours au bout de son pinceau l’accident de la matière et la finesse du poil qui marque la toile. Marcos Marin nous réchauffe ainsi par une peinture qui lui ressemble. Son pinceau pleure toujours un sourire, et ses sujets cherchent toujours un souvenir. Ses lignes de fuite nous rappellent alors que nul ne saurait exister sans un passé. Cette gymnastique de l’œil, n’est que le miroir d’un sport cérébral que nous nous devons sur ce que nous sommes. L’optical art nous rappelle enfin, qu’il ne saurait y avoir qu’une vérité. Comment savoir alors ce que chacun y verra. Proust n’écrivais-t-il pas: “Notre personnalité sociale est une création de la pensée des autres”.
